DEMOPOLIS &8212; Taking the lyrics of Elvis and the plot of William Shakespeare&8217;s &8220;Twelfth Night,&8221; the Canebrake Players have a new production in the works for this summer.

Karen Dean from Thomasville, who previously directed &8220;Little Shop of Horrors&8221; and &8220;The Good Doctor&8221; at the Canebrake, will be the director of &8220;All Shook Up,&8221; which is expected to run later this summer.

Dean has been involved in theater since she was a child, and pursued theater at the Alabama School of Fine Arts and later the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After moving back home to the Thomasville, Dean made it a point to invest her time in community theater. She has been working with the Canebrake Players for three years.

When asked about her latest production, Dean said she hopes a good crowd will show up for auditions this week because there is very little time to get the show started.

The musical opened on Broadway at the Palace Theatre on March 24, 2005 and closed on Sept. 25, 2005 after 213 performances and 33 previews. Although Dean has never seen a live production of the show, she said she knows it is one the community will be drawn to.

One of the things Dean tries to instill in her cast and crew members is that the production is a team effort, she said. She likes to involve everyone in the decision making process of the show.

Auditions for &8220;All Shook Up&8221; will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 15 and from 6 p.m. until they have seen everyone on Monday, June 16 at the Old School on Main Street.

The players are looking to cast six men and five women in lead roles, along with a nine-person chorus. Parts are for ages 16 and up, and actors may prepare 16 bars of their favorite Elvis song or may sing what the director provides.

Rehearsals begin June 17 and the show will be August 1-3 at the Canebrake Theater.
