The Demopolis Public Library is adding a little something new this season &8212; an adult summer reading program. Assistant library director Lee Boulie spoke with The Times about this new program:

Q: Who is eligible for the adult summer reading program?

A: Anyone 18 or older can participate.

Q: What kinds of books are part of the program?

A: It&8217;s really the reader&8217;s choice. They can read anything they like. We just ask that they read five.

Q: Will there be activities planned for the adults like there are for the teens&8217; summer reading program?

A: We have a book club that meets the third Monday in July, and we are planning a series of lunches at the library. Check out our Web site, www.demopolislibrary.info, for the dates. We are also offering basic computer courses starting Tuesday (today) and Web site design classes, so there is a lot going on for adults as well as young people.

Q: And there&8217;s a big finale for the summer reading program, right?

A: We&8217;re planning a movie under the stars down by the river on July 22, where we&8217;ll show &8216;Horton Hears a Who.&8217;

Q: How has the response been from the community?

A: I think we have had really good response. I wasn&8217;t sure how many people we would have sign up, but we&8217;ve already had 66, maybe 67 people sign up. I feel like we&8217;ve exceeded our goal already, but getting 100 or more people to participate would be great.

Q: Do programs like this help people learn about how integral the library is to the city?

A: A city with a great library is a great city. A good library results in people being able to form ideas and think for themselves, and that&8217;s a great thing. Programs like this are a great way for people to realize what we offer at the library.

Q: And, not to be too shallow, but there are prizes involved too, aren&8217;t there?

A: There are. The people in the community have been very generous to the library.
