Demopolis all-stars win

This week started slow for the Demopolis All-Star team, but by Friday night, the group was playing to the caliber that they should be heading into today&8217;s final round of tournament play at the Sports-Plex.

On Monday, the group fell to Gilbertown 8-6. A lack of defense was to blame according to head coach Terry Lay.

Tuesday&8217;s round of playoffs, held in Butler, saw for a more fortunate game for Demopolis. The group took Butler, 10-4.

Thursday night&8217;s play was held in Linden. Demopolis trailed to start the game, but unlike Monday&8217;s game, their comeback proved useful and the group went on to win the game, 9-8, off of an Andrew Patterson homerun.

Friday night&8217;s game was dampened by rain for the first five innings, but that did not keep this talented group of seven and eight year olds from staying on top throughout the whole game.

In the first two innings, Demopolis posted two points to Greensboro&8217;s zero.

Monday&8217;s problem of a lacking offense was not obvious in last night&8217;s game, as many of Demopolis&8217; players found their way to the bags.

As they entered the third, Demopolis led 2-0. Greensboro batted in the top of the inning, with no hits and three strikeouts.

Although Wesley Allgood, Jacobi Ware, Andrew Patterson, and Jeremy Foster found their way to the bags with Demopolis at bat, no one could find their way across the plate. At the top of the fourth, Demopolis still held the lead at 2-0.

And apparently the group agreed.

Jackson Lay ended up with a triple off of a hit that, if properly fielded, would have been a single. Due to Greensboro&8217;s mishandling of the ball, both Lay and Dillon Crocker ended up scoring, making it 4-0.

Malik Moore, who had a single, scored the last run of the fourth, making the score 5-0.

From there, Demopolis didn&8217;t look back.

Demopolis went on to win the game 6-1.

Today&8217;s games are at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Sports-Plex. By all signs, Demopolis will play Linden at 3 p.m.
