BELMONT &8212; An unusual accident led to the closure of Highway 28 between Demopolis and Livingston for nearly two-and-a-half hours Monday morning.

A car belonging to former district attorney Barrown Lankster reportedly rolled from where it was parked at an Amoco convenience store and struck a natural gas line around 8 a.m., according to a convenience store employee who asked not to be named.

State troopers closed the highway as workers tried to seal the leak. Motorists were rerouted to County Road 21.

The store was closed for nearly three hours before employees were allowed to enter again.

Lankster said he was in Demopolis when the accident occurred.

Adding insult to injury, when a truck tried to tow Lankster&8217;s 1988 Mercedes, it slipped and skidded across Highway 28 and struck a pair of signs alongside the road.

And definitely not his best one, either.
