DEMOPOLIS &8212; The high school cheerleading squad will ring in 2009 in the Land of the Delta Blues after having agreed to take part in the 50th installment of the AutoZone Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tenn.

Attaway, who is in her fifth year working with the squad, said the girls opted for the Birthplace of the Blues over the Jacksonville, Fla.-based Gator Bowl because of their perception the Liberty Bowl will garner a larger audience.

The girls are scheduled to arrive in Memphis on Dec. 30, taking part in a number of festivities leading up to the Jan. 2 game.

While receiving the invite was a big moment, the work that will go into the trip has only just begun.

The cost for each girl to make the trek is reportedly $600. In order toe cover that amount Attaway and the squad are looking into a number of fundraising options.

The announcement of the event came in close proximity to the girls&8217; recent participation in a cheer camp at Auburn University.

Attaway also said she hopes the girls&8217; opportunity to take part in the Liberty Bowl will serve as a drawing card to other girls who may be considering cheering at the high school level.
