LIVINGSTON &8212; Former University of Alabama standout hoops star Marcus Campbell will host his seventh annual basketball camp at Livingston High School&8217;s Nelson R. Hughes Gymnasium Wednesday and Thursday.

Campbell, who played at Alabama from 1987-1991 before playing professionally in Europe until a knee injury ended his career in 2000, said his camp is designed to teach attendees a great deal more than basketball know-how.

Campbell said that a large part of that process is emphasizing priorities to campers.

In addition to education and character, Campbell explained the camp strives to instill teamwork in campers.

Aside from receiving lessons applicable both on the court and off, campers will be provided T-shirts and lunch. Additionally, each attendee will be eligible for camp awards and prizes.

The two-day camp will conclude with Thursday&8217;s award ceremony, an event that will give away numerous keepsakes, including the Ronald E. Cook Sr. Award.

While honoring its recipient, the award is Campbell&8217;s way of paying homage to a man he says was instrumental in his life and the camp&8217;s existence.

The camp, which drew 105 students in 2007, is for boys and girls in grades five through 12 and registration is free. Registration will last from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. each day. The camp will conclude at 3 p.m. Wednesday and at 1 p.m. Thursday following the awards ceremony.
