Demopolis tops Linden in 12Under

LINDEN &8212; In a game that started out with all the makings of a championship prizefight, Demopolis pulled away late to beat Linden 14-6 in 12U District 10 tournament play Wednesday night.

Josh Mangum got the fireworks started two days early, launching a two-run blast in the top of the first inning to give Demopolis the early 2-0 lead.

Linden responded in kind in the bottom of the inning when Chris Rogers displayed his power with a two-run homer of his own to tie the game.

The teams put its defensive prowess on display in the second inning with each one pulling off a highlight-reel-caliber play to squelch scoring threats.

Demopolis broke the tie in the top of the third inning, plating Mangum and William Tutt on a Michael Brooker base knock to push the score to 4-2.

Linden answered back in the home half of the frame, scoring Jacob Gunter and Chris Rogers on a Hayden Hall single to tie the game.

Demopolis finally distanced itself from the home team in the top of the fourth when Mangum&8217;s second two-run home run of the game plated John Anthony Morrison. Two batters later, Will Tucker sent a line drive shot over the right-center field fence with Tutt aboard. The two-out rally pushed the lead to 8-4.

Demopolis went on to add three runs in the fifth when Mangum, Morrison and D&8217;Metric Howell scored. Tyler Oates, Charlie Parten and Matt Eicher scored in the sixth to cap the Demopolis scoring.

Michael Brooker allowed two runs but struck out six over his two innings of work to close the game.
