NIcholas Braswell III

CULLMAN — Nicholas Tilford Braswell III, 71, of Cullman, died Monday, July 14, 2008, in Cullman. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church at 1 p.m., on Wednesday, July 16, 2008, with the Rev. Larry Schinnick officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery with Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors of Demopolis directing.
Braswell was born March 13, 1937, in Selma. After being reared in Demopolis, he attended Marion Military Institution. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama, where he received a Bachelor of Science in 1959. Braswell served three years with the United States Army; exiting as a second lieutenant in order to finish law school at the University of Alabama in 1965. He then joined the law firm of Rushton, Stakely, Johnston and Garrett, where he practiced law for 37 years. He was a senior partner at the time of his retirement and served as a bar examiner from 1985 to1988. He was also a published expert in the field of insurance defense and workman’s compensation.
In 2003, he retired to his family home in Demopolis and joined his son’s law firm at Lloyd and Dinning. He spent his retirement practicing law, as he desired, hunting, fishing, farming and reading. Braswell is an active member of St. Leo’s Parish and served on the Parish Council.
Three children, Nicholas Tilford Braswell IV, Carol Louise Braswell and Alexander Fournder Braswell, survive Braswell. At the time of his death, he had five grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Jimmy Watson, Louie Braswell, Cruise Braswell, John Cox Webb, Robert Huffaker, Joe Bob Pierce, James W. Garrett Jr. and Harris Riggs. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Renda, Forest Chandler, Jay Caldwell, Dub Jackson, Gwaltney McCollam, Gene Parker and Mike Barnes.
