A pair of Demopolis men were arrested when operatives representing multiple law enforcement agencies arrested them while executing searches to reclaim stolen property Friday.

William Wallace and Leroy Walker were both taken into custody and charged with possession of narcotics.

Wallace was charged with first-degree possession of marijuana.

“He has a previous conviction for marijuana possession,” interim Demopolis Police Chief Tim Williams said. “After that conviction, any other drug possession charge is automatically a first-degree charge, no matter the amount a suspect is found with.”

Walker was also charged with possession of a controlled substance — in his case, ecstasy.

The pair was arrested on Blacks Drive as law enforcement began to recover stolen property from several different counties.

“We’re recovering stolen property from all over the place,” Williams said.

The operation was the result of an ongoing investigation by DPD and the Marengo County Sheriff’s Office. But multiple agencies were on hand Friday.

Police from Eutaw, York, Thomasville and Linden all cooperated in serving the search warrants, as did the Greene County Sheriff’s Department and Marengo County Sheriff’s Department. The Tuscaloosa Police Department loaned out a helicopter for the operation as well.

The stolen property was quite valuable.

“As far as a dollar value, I wouldn’t even guess at the amount of stolen property we recovered Friday,” Williams said.

The chief said he expects other arrests may come out of Friday’s operation.
