Former district attorney Barrown D. Lankster has a lot to be proud of these days.

Lankster, who still practices law in Demopolis, was nominated by a statewide selection committee to be a finalist for the inaugural Regions Financial Corparation Black Achiever Award.

Though he didn’t win the award, Lankster said he was extremely proud of the nomination.

“I am honored to be a recipient of this recognition,” Lankster said.

Lankster attended a formal gala where “Black professionals, entrepreneurs, physicians and others who have added to black culture in Alabama” were honored, event organizer Oliver Robinson said in a written statement.

But another event might be even more important to Lankster, as he was re-elected to the Alabama Law Institute in Tuscaloosa.

His six-year term at the institute expires in 2014.

“Congratulations on your re-election …” law institute director Bob McCurley wrote Lankster when informing him of his re-election. “The institute is successful only becaue top lawyers as you have been involved in the writing or review of meaningful bills that keep Alabama and its laws modernized.”

McCurley said Lankster’s presence at the Law Institute was invaluable.

“I look forward to our continued work together,” he said.
