The Salvation Army is on the march.

OK, so it’s a short march — from its current location on Bailey Drive to U.S. Highway 80, across from Regions Bank.

But the effort is monumental, as workers and volunteers take on the task of moving everything in the current location to the new one.

“It’s a monumental move,” Salvation Army Capt. Eric Roberts said. “We’re going from the sometimes cramped store on Bailey Drive to a store with 5,500 square feet.”

The new store will be open as soon as possible, Roberts said.

“We’re trying to move as much as possible today (Wednesday),” Roberts said. “We will open in our new location as soon as we get everything over.”

The most important thing, Roberts said, was to let everyone know the Salvation Army would still be available to meet the needs of iyd patrons.

“This is a good move for us,” he said, “and we are excited by the new space we will be able to use.”

The Salvation Army is a Christian charity and church that is internally organised like a military service. Its founders William and Catherine Booth sought to bring Christian salvation to the poor, destitute and hungry by meeting both their physical and spiritual needs.
