Fairhaven Baptist Church will celebrate its 50th anniversary this Sunday.
Services will begin at 10 a.m. and church financial secretary Patsy Murray said special guest of the ceremony would include several of the church’s familiar faces over the past 50 years.
“We’ve invited all of the former pastors and their wives from the past 50 years,” she said. “Of course, some of them have passed away, but we anticipate most of them will attend.”
Services will be held from 10 a.m. to approximately noon with a lunch to immediately follow.
“For a church that started with only a handful of people, meeting in the old National Guard Armory, we’ve come a log way,” Fairhaven pastor Allen Atkins said. “From our radio and television ministry to being able to purchase property and experience the kind of growth that we have, it’s truly been a blessing from God.”
The event has been moved from the sanctuary to the church’s Christian Life Center in anticipation of a large turnout. The special two-hour event will also feature two videos that will take parishioners on a journey back in time.
“We’ll have one video that are interviews with the former pastors,” Atkins said.
“The second will be a roundtable with charter members and some of the longest-standing members of the church where they look back on some of their fondest and oldest memories.”
Members past and present as well as non-members who would like to take part in the celebration are invited to attend.
