LINDEN — Kyle Schroeder broke a 27-yard touchdown run with 7:37 to go in the first quarter and the Longhorns (3-3, 2-1) never looked back on their way to a 47-0 win over East Memorial Christian Academy Thursday night.

“They have a better team than their record shows,” Marengo Academy head coach Jesse Little said of EMCA.

After a Matt Etheridge interception halted the ensuing EMCA drive on third down, Josh Montee capped a four-play, 34-yard march with a four-yard scoring run to push the lead to 13-0.

“I can brag on the linemen,” Montee said of his blockers following the game. “Offensive front is where it starts.”

Schroeder found the end zone for the second time on the first play of the next MA possession when he broke an 18-yard run for paydirt.

“Since we’ve moved (Schroeder) in the backfield, he’s done an outstanding job,” Little said.

Quarterback Jesse Morgan connected with Jeffery Green for the two-point conversion play to hand the Longhorns the 21-0 lead.

EMCA’s best drive of the night stalled after four plays and an offsides penalty led the team to the Longhorn 28-yard line. Marengo’s Cody Baker picked off a pass to squelch the threat.

“That line is just doing a heck of a job,” Schroeder said. “They got a lot of confidence in the past two wins we’ve had.”

The Longhorns added one more score in the first half on a one-yard touchdown run by Morgan that pushed the lead to 35-0 at the intermission.

Morgan and Trevor Johnson each picked off a pass in the second half while Etheridge and Rabe Hale each had touchdown runs.

“Rabe has improved every week,” Little said of his sophomore tailback.

The Longhorns, who tallied 327 yards of total offense in the game, held EMCA to 71 total yards of movement.

Schroeder led the Longhorns with 128 yards on 10 carries. Montee finished with 107 yards on 13 carries while Hale added 68 yards on nine carries.

The Longhorn defense forced five turnovers, including four interceptions, on the night. Marengo Academy will host Escambia Academy for homecoming next week.
