Sam Sayers

Mr. Sam Mike Sayers, age 93, died Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Woodhaven Manor in Demopolis.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30 at The First Baptist Church of Demopolis with Dr. Rex Kent officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Demopolis.
The family will receive friends at the church Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the services time.
Mr. Sayers was preceded in death by his parents, John Sayers and Bessie Cook Sayers, his daughter, Beth Sayers Wilde, his wife, Margaret Elizabeth Sayers ; his sister, Dora Helen McAlpine.
Survivors include his sister, Margaret S. Carter of Demopolis, several nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of the First Baptist Church of Demopolis.
Mr. Sayers was a native and lifelong resident of Demopolis. He was a graduate of Livingston University and had taught school at Livingston University, Demopolis City Schools and Linden City Schools. He retired from the United States Postal service in Demopolis as Assistant Post Master after thirty-five years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Demopolis where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and was Man of The Year 1983 in Demopolis. He was a World War II Army veteran and was discharged as a Master Sergeant.
