Demopolis mayor Mike Grayson held the first of his proposed weekly press conferences at City Hall yesterday, what he terms the “Media Hour of Power,” on Monday mornings.

A formal press conference in Demopolis may sound like a bit much, but it’s a good opportunity for Mayor Grayson to put the city’s business on the table for media scrutiny.

Grayson discussed a lot of the happenings from Thursday’s Demopolis City Council meeting, the first in his term as mayor.

Grayson began the press conference by discussing the possible changes in municipal officials.

Among the items on the city’s list is the appointment of city officials, including clerks and department heads – including police and fire chiefs.

The council is not required to retain anyone appointed by the prior regime but in most cases those who do a good job generally are kept on.

The most glaring opportunity facing the city is the appointment of a permanent police chief, which Grayson addressed in his press conference.

At his next “Media Hour of Power” we’ll be glad to pass them on to the mayor. We’re sure he’ll be pleased to aswer them.
