LINDEN – Linden city schools will soon have a new website with up-to-date information thanks to students in Mitzi Gates journalism class. The students from Linden High kicked off a new initiative to plan, design and create websites for the high school, elementary school, junior high and Marengo County Technical Center.

“The class was divided into four groups and assigned a different school. They began Thursday by examining websites from other schools and deciding what type of website design would best suit the school they are creating the site for,” said Gates.

From there, Christi George, the webmaster at the University of West Alabama, will present an all day workshop on website design and assist in training the students on how to set the site up and maintain it.

“This will not only help the schools by creating websites they need, but transport the journalism class at Linden into web development and internet media – necessary tools for journalists in today’s environment,” Gates said.

The school system had a website at www.lindencity.org, but it was never finished, said Gates.

“We plan to keep the sites consistently updated with information students, parents, educators and the community at large will find useful and informative,” said Gates.

“It sounds interesting, especially being able to plan and design our own website,” said student Collette Butler. “I’m looking forward to it.”

The journalism class currently publishes a monthly school newspaper called “The Patriot.”
