For the second straight year, the Dirty South Slab Ryders motorcycle club collected toys for children in need and brought them to the Christian Chapel Baptist Church on Decatur Street.

The cyclists got a police escort on Saturday, as the 15 members of the group came in with toys for their annual toy drive, riding from Parr’s Chevron to the church.

“We started the toy drive after Thanksgiving,” said Darrell Oden, the president of the club. “Some people gave us money and gift cards.”

Oden said they wanted to start a toy drive, but had no place to bring the toys.

“We were looking for a place, and the Christian Chapel Church said they would bost us,” Oden said. “They have been very gracious hosts. Loretta and Fred Moore have been wonderful to us.”

Church volunteers were on hand to receive the gifts and treat the Slab Ryders to refreshments. Soon after, they were back on the road to take part in the parade in Forkland. Those wanting to donate may still do so. For information, contact Oden at (334) 654-0190 or the church at 289-0332.
