Elisabeth Fleming Banks

Elisabeth Fleming Banks passed away on Jan. 5, 2009, in Demopolis.
She was born in Elba on Jan. 6, 1924, to Mr. and Mrs. John Claude Fleming. She graduated from Elba High School, attended Judson College for two years and graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University) in 1946 with a degree in education. She was a member of Chi Omega social sorority.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Elba and taught school in Covington County until her retirement.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 10, at 2 p.m. at Hayes Funeral Home Chapel in Elba. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. to the time of the service. The family will also receive friends at Kidd-Robbins Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. Kidd-Robbins Funeral Home of Demopolis is directing the services.
Mrs. Banks was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ruth Perdue and Cladean Chambers.
She is survived by her daughters, Gayle (Dr. Phillip H.) Merrill of Dothan and Betsy (William T.) Coplin of Demopolis; one sister, Genette Kendrick of Elba; six grandchildren, Will Coplin, Abby Coplin and Molly Coplin, all of Demopolis, Elizabeth Merrill Hargrave of Jackson, Ala., Hank Merrill of Atlanta, Ga., and Kathryn Coplin Penna of Savannah, Ga.; and four great-grandchildren, Hudson and Meryl Anne Hargrave and Maggie and Mollie Merrill.
Pallbearers include Hank Merrill, Will Coplin, Jeff Hargrave and Brian Penna.
