Mrs. Bessie Rue Allgood Philips Love, age 97, formerly of Forkland died on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at her daughter’s home in McIntyre, Ga.
She had lived in McIntyre, Ga., for the past nine years with her daughter, Carolyn, and lived in Forkland for 70 years, where she was the owner and operator of a general mercantile store. She was a member of Forkland United Methodist Church and formerly of the Home Demonstration Club.
Services were held on Monday, Jan. 12, at 11 a.m. at Forkland United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Murray officiating. Interment followed in Forkland Cemetery with Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors of Demopolis directing services.
The family received friends at the church Monday one hour prior to the service time.
Mrs. Love was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar S. Allgood and Ethel Mae Amberson Allgood; her husbands, Julian Keith Phillips and Calvin C. Love; two sisters, Cleo Garner Burnett and Avoline Allgood Estes; five brothers, Wesley Garner, Raymond Allgood, Ted C. Allgood, Alton Allgood and Hermon Allgood; two sons, Charles E. Phillips Jr. and James K. Phillips; two granddaughters, Beverly Carol Phillips and Debra K. Allred; one grandson, Raymond D. Stephens Jr.; one great-grandson, James Joseph Kinkella; one daughter-in-law, Margie Carol Phillips; and one son-in-law, Raymond D. Stephens Sr.
Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn M. Stephens of McIntyre, Ga.; her son, Terry D. (Kathy) Love of Folkston, Ga.; her daughter-in-law, Zoie Gandy Phillips; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Tucker, Matthew Phillips, Gary Phillips, Kenny Phillips, Bill McCarter and Eddie Tate.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Rev. Randy and Janet Carnley, Dr. M Duke, Dr. Brad Mathias, Mae McGuire, Arzella Flowers, Stanley and Sonia Barfield, Rodney and Betty Allen, Marlin Barton Jr., L. Lillian, M. Elizabeth Rhodes, Mary Jo Evans, Fay Barker, Barbara Finely, Lou Ethel Byner and Katherine Etheridge.
