William “Bill” Warren Scott

William “Bill” Warren Scott, age 82, of Linden passed away on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital in Demopolis.
He was a lifelong native of Marengo County, and was a graduate of Linden High School. He also attended Marion Military Institute and the University of Alabama. At MMI, he met his future wife, Laura Jean Wigginton.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, where he was stationed in the Pacific on Tinian and Iwo Jima.
He was a lifelong member of the Linden United Methodist Church. He was a past president of the First Bank of Linden, where he worked alongside his father, H.E. Scott, during high school, and began working there full-time in August 1948. He was an avid turkey hunter.
Visitation will be at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Linden on Tuesday, Jan. 13, from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. service time with Tom Boggs officiating. Burial will be at Linden Memorial Park in Linden. O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Linden is directing the services.
Mr. Scott is survived his wife, Laura Jean Scot of Linden; two daughters, Ann Scott Yelverton of Linden and Sharon McKnight Richard of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Roberts Boyd Scott of Birmingham; a sister, Louise Scott Tobler of Charlottesville, Va.; and four grandchildren, Scott McKnight, Thomas McKnight, Lee Ann Yelverton and Lauren Yelverton.
Active pallbearers will be Mike Robison, Terry Barr, Thomas Boggs Jr., Wayne Lewis, Thomas Miller Jr., Dennis Mason, Keith Richard, L.M.Yelverton and Eugene Carter.
Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Owensby, James Pritchett and J.D. Flowers. Special recognition will be given by Pat Rembert.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Linden United Methodist Church or the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.
