THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BIRMINGHAM HAS ISSUED A TORNADO WARNING FOR CENTRAL PERRY COUNTY, WEST CENTRAL DALLAS COUNTY, NORTHEASTERN MARENGO COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST ALABAMA… THIS INCLUDES THE CITY OF DEMOPOLIS… SOUTHEASTERN GREENE COUNTY, SOUTHERN HALE COUNTY AND EAST CENTRAL SUMTER COUNTY UNTIL 4:30 PM CST. THESE AREAS WILL ALSO REMAIN UNDER A TORNADO WATCH UNTIL 8 P.M. TONIGHT.

* AT 3:55 PM CST… THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING A TORNADO NEAR DUG HILL… OR 10 MILES WEST OF DEMOPOLIS… MOVING EAST AT 50 MPH.

* THE TORNADO WILL BE NEAR… DEMOPOLIS AND FORKLAND BY 4:05 PM CST… ARCOLA BY 4:10 PM CST… DUFFYS BEND BY 4:15 PM CST… 6 MILES SOUTH OF GREENSBORO MUNICIPAL AIRPORT BY 4:20 PM CST… NEWBERN AND 6 MILES SOUTH OF GREENSBORO BY 4:25 PM CST…

THE SAFEST PLACE TO BE DURING A TORNADO IS IN A BASEMENT. GET UNDER A WORKBENCH OR OTHER PIECE OF STURDY FURNITURE. IF NO BASEMENT IS AVAILABLE… SEEK SHELTER ON THE LOWEST FLOOR OF THE BUILDING IN AN INTERIOR HALLWAY OR ROOM SUCH AS A CLOSET. USE BLANKETS OR PILLOWS TO COVER YOUR BODY AND ALWAYS STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS.

IF IN MOBILE HOMES OR VEHICLES… EVACUATE THEM AND GET INSIDE A SUBSTANTIAL SHELTER. IF NO SHELTER IS AVAILABLE… LIE FLAT IN THE NEAREST DITCH OR OTHER LOW SPOT AND COVER YOUR HEAD WITH YOUR HANDS.
