Michelle Pritchett led the way in the circle and at the plate as Marengo Academy (4-0) stayed undefeated Tuesday with a 1-0 win over Clarke Prep.

“She did an amazing job,” MA head coach Todd Mathis said of Pritchett. “She did outstanding. She stayed focused the whole game. We were never in danger of them scoring.”

Pritchett pitched the full seven innings for the Lady Longhorns, striking out seven while allowing only two hits.

Pritchett also helped her team at the plate when she beat out an infield hit in the sixth inning before stealing second. A pair of errors on the steal attempt allowed Pritchett to go all the way home and score the only run of the game.

“We were flat,” Mathis said. “The hitting was pitiful. We had to manufacture the only run we got.”

Mathis said he believes the nail-biter could prove to be a good thing for his team.

“I think it might have been a good wake-up for them,” Mathis said. “They came in laxidasical. They stayed flat the whole game right there until the end.”

The Lady Longhorns play again Friday when they travel to Macon-East Montgomery.
