Jacob Olen Kerby of Demopolis was presented the Tagged for Greatness Scholarship at the 66th annual Alabama Cattlemen’s Association Convention and Trade Show.

Each year, the Alabama Cattlemen’s Foundation awards Tagged for Greatness scholarships to deserving youth from Alabama’s livestock industry. These scholarships are funded through the sale of the “Cowboy Tag” which is available at your county’s tag office and is approved for vehicles up to 10,000 pounds.

As a senior at Demopolis High School, Kerby is a member of the Beta Club, Who’s Who among American High School Students, National Society of High School Scholars, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the First United Methodist Church Youth Group. He has also lettered in football and baseball for four years and was an Alabama Boy’s State representative. Kerby plans to attend Auburn University to major in finance and plans to open his own business. He is the son of Olen and Karen Kerby.

The beef industry is the second largest segment of Alabama’s farm economy representing a $2-billion industry with annual sales of cattle and calves exceeding $450 million. The Alabama Cattlemen’s Association, founded in 1944, is one of the nations largest state cattlemen’s association with an annual membership of 12,000.
