Once again, there was little news emanating this year from Linden’s annual audit, which is actually pretty good news in itself.

The city and utility department received excellent marks from an audit conducted over the past few months.

Ashley Lough, a CPA with Aldridge and Borden Company, presented the final report to a joint council/utility board meeting on Tuesday.

“Your ongoing operations and budgeting process and very well; they are right on,” Lough told the council members. “It didn’t just happen. It took a lot of work to do that.”

While it took a joint effort by several city employees and officials to keep Linden’s financial books in such great shape, you can’t ignore the fact that city administrator Cheryl Hall has a lot to do with it. Beginning her 14th year as city administrator, Hall had shown once again why she is such a tremendous asset to Linden.

“We have so much to be proud of and Cheryl is one of those reasons,” said Linden mayor Mitzi Gates. “She has what I would consider matchless accounting and organizational expertise.”

Tuesday night’s read-through of this year’s audit was pretty boring, something you would want to read as a cure to insomnia, but that is how it should be.

In this case, no news is good news, and Cheryl Hall is mostly to credit for that.
