It is often said that the world is a classroom where people can learn any things. Sixth-grade students from Demopolis Middle School got to experience the great outdoors and learn about the environment on a trip to Foscue Creek Park on Thursday.

“We’ve been having sixth-graders from throughout the county all week,” said forester Billy Carlisle. “There are seven stations set up on this course. Some are wildlife, others are soil types and other forestry topics.”

The tour for sixth-graders is called FAWN, which stands for Forest AWareness Now. Rangers D’Mar Moore and Jim Dixon walked with the students throughout the woods at Foscue Creek Park, showing them how to identify the trees and telling them about how woodlands are used.
