The West team prevailed 10-5 in a battle at the 2009 Alabama Lions George C. Spence Memorial East-West All Star Baseball Game on Tuesday night.

The East team consisted of players from Bibb County High School, Livingston High School and West Blocton High School.

The West team was made up of players from Demopolis High School, Greensboro High School and Sweet Water High School.

The East took an early lead, scoring one run when a single by Ryan Lawley of Bibb County brought Bibb County’s Matt Hall across the plate.

The West answered in the second with a run scored by Morgan LeCroy of Demopolis, batted in by Sweet Water’s Antonio Landrum, who also scored in the inning.

The East regained the lead 3-2, with runs scored by Matthew Elam of Bibb County and Jeremy Brown of Livingston.

The East scored another run in the fourth when Jace Watkins of Bibb County crossed the plate.

Demopolis’ Jacob Kerby hit a two-run double in the bottom of the fourth to score Shelby Speegle of Demopolis and Ledarious Page of Greensboro.

Kerby and Sweet Water’s Eric Lynn also scored in the inning, giving the West a 6-4 lead.

The fifth inning saw four more runs cross the plate for the West, as Greensboro’s Jamarcus Moore, Demopolis’ Demetrius Charleston, Speegle and Page all scored.

In the top of the seventh, Hall scored the final run for the East, batted in by Watkins’ sacrifice fly.

Speegle rung up six strike outs in three innings of pitching for the West.

Greensboro’s Donta Reeves added three additional strike outs for the West.

Kerby struck out the side in the fifth, as did Moore in the sixth.

Jace Watkins, West Blocton’s Daniel Scarpelli, and Lawley combined for 12 strike outs for the East.

Five players advanced to the regional game in Clanton on May 23.

The players selected were Jace Watkins of Bibb County High School, Kody Smitherman of West Blocton High School, Shelby Speegle and Jacob Kerby of Demopolis High School, and Antonio Landrum of Sweet Water High School.

Proceeds from the game were donated to the Alabama Lions Sight Conservation Association.
