The Demopolis Times has launched a new mobile website, accessible via cell phone.

Readers with “smart phones” like Apple’s iPhone, a BlackBerry or a similar device equipped with mobile Internet capabilities, can read the Demopolis Times’ top stories directly from their cell phone.

“Technology changes almost everyday and you have to keep up,” Times publisher Jason Cannon said. “Our new mobile site provides anyone with web access on their cell phone with a fast and convenient way to keep up with the news and events in our community.”

Mobile users can log on to the new site by navigating to mobile.demopolistimes.com or to m.demopolistimes.com.

Among the items featured are the top news and sports stories, opinions, obituaries and the weather, and is automatically updated whenever the main site – www.demopolistimes.com – is updated.

“The page and stories load to the phone very quickly,” Cannon said, “and it’s very easy to navigate your way through the site.”

Plans to develop a mobile launching application (app) are currently underway.

“I currently have three mobile site apps on my cell phone and I look forward to the day when I can add the fourth – the app for Demopolis Times mobile.”

The Times’ mobile site joins its Twitter feed and facebook presence – which are both accessible via both the web and cell phone – as recent new media ventures by the newspaper.
