Former Demopolis quarterback Rick Boone played the final AHSAA-sanctioned game of his life Friday night in Huntsville when he played in the annual North-South All-Star football game.

“It was a fun experience to play with new people,” Boone said.

“For some reason, on our team, we came together real quick.”

Boone served as one half of the South squad’s quarterback tandem along with Straughn High’s Ryne Taylor.

Boone got his team up off the deck in the fourth quarter when he engineered a scoring play with the North leading 14-0 midway through the game’s final period. On the only play of the team’s only scoring drive, Boone went to the air and connected with UMS-Wright receiver Brock Reaves on a 34-yard touchdown pass.

“It felt good,” Boone said of the score. “I wanted to get that last pass in, but it wasn’t my turn, so I just had to sit back and watch.”

Boone finished the game 5-of-8 through the air for 62 yards and a touchdown.

“It felt good knowing I had the chance to play in one more,” Boone said of the experience. “But it also made me feel like I had something to look forward to when it comes to college ball.”

The conclusion of the game brought Boone face to face with his next athletic challenge, the beginning of summer practice at the University of West Alabama where he signed to play quarterback.

“I just want to go out there, work hard and do the best I can,” Boone said.
