Dr. Dorothy Wiley Pearson of Tuscaloosa died on Sept. 19, 2009, at Hospice of West Alabama.
She worked in the University of Alabama system for many years, and served as the dean of the Department of Library Science at the University of Southern Mississippi. Her second career was as a multimillion-dollar producer for Horace Mann Insurance.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Milton Pearson; her parents, Jack and Pat Wiley; and her brother-in-law, Capt. Norman Shriver.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Jane (Doug) Aured of Tuscaloosa; her son, Ethan Pearson of Tuscaloosa; her sister, Marilyn Shriver of Little Egg Harbor, N.J.; and two grandchildren, Jack Aured and Meg Aured, both of Tuscaloosa.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 4 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. Dan Kilgore and Father David Meginniss officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home. A reception after the service will be held in Randall Hall at Christ Episcopal Church. Heritage Chapel Funeral Home is directing the services.
