John Stokes

John Benson Stokes, age 75, of Greensboro, passed away on Sept. 23, 2009, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 4, 1934, to the late Haywood Flinn and Pearl Hannah Stokes. He served in the Army overseas in Germany. He was also the manager of Greensboro Tractor Inc. for more than 25 years. He served as a Hale County Commissioner for 12 years, and was an active member of the Hale County Emergency Management Systems board.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, John Benson Stokes Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Lois Catherine Prisoc of Greensboro; two daughters, Lisa Stokes (Mike) Cochran and Rhonda Stokes (Phil) Harper, both of Greensboro; a sister, Mary Westbrook of Linden; one brother, Haywood (Mary) Stokes Jr. of Newbern; and five grandchildren, Christina Cochran, John Michael Cochran, Julie Burch, Kay Harper and Hunter Harper, all of Greensboro.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Sept. 25, at 11 a.m. at Rhodes Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Shirley and the Rev. Albert Lyles officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery. The family received friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Kirk Funeral Homes Greensboro Chapel directed the services.
Active pallbearers were John Michael Cochran, Alan Hoggle, Evan Kynard, J.W. Kynard, Malcolm Henry Jr., Ralph Howard, Charles Thomas and Woody Stokes. Honorary pallbearers were the staff, nurses and doctors of Hospice of West Alabama.
