The Demopolis Pilot Club held its first walk to raise awareness for brain injuries and disorders around the town square Saturday morning.

Beginning at 9 a.m., walkers made several laps around the square, with three laps equaling a mile. Many of them decided to walk three miles.

“We want to do this every year, because walking is so good for your brain, and our focus is brain awareness,” said event coordinator Melissa Weltin.

Demopolis Pilot Club president Andrea Ward said the goal is to have the walk every year to help keep people aware of brain health. The walk is an event that is sponsored nationwide by Pilot Club International.

Those taking part in the walk included Demopolis High School Anchor Club members Jacob Norton and Sarah Norton and Anchor Club sponsor Stacy Boland. The Anchor Club is the high school club sponsored by the Pilot Club.
