What began as an at-home hobby has turned into a thriving jewelry and gift store.

Now, Lindsey’s is celebrating its five-year anniversary.

“I used to design jewelry out of my house,” said co-owner Sandra Seale. “I did seasonal shows at certain times of the year. All of my friends told me, ‘You need a store! Why don’t you get a store?’ So, we took it from there.”

With her sister, Susan Webb, Seale opened Lindsey’s Florist and Gifts next to Smokin’ Jacks. It grew fron there.

“We’ve just added florist services,” Seale said. “We are now FTD florists as well. Audrey Barnes is a big part of our floral department; she’s had 18 years’ experience with her own business in Linden.

“We do wedding registries and baby registries. We have all the necessary things that go with being a florist. We do funeral flower work and in-town deliveries to people or the hospital or wherever they would want to send them.”

The store name comes from the owners’ maiden name, Lindsey.

“We both had boys; we never had any girls, so we never got to have a ‘Lindsey’!” Webb said.

The store will be open late on the Thursday of Christmas on the River Week, Dec. 3.

“That’s just something we do every year,” Seale said.

They will host an open house on Thursday as a way for the store to thank its customers for helping it become a success in Demopolis.

Refreshments will be available from 5 to 7 p.m., and there will be a 15-percent discount for cash sales.

“It’s a good milestone for us, to be open for five years,” Seale said. “We’re proud to have been open for five years, and we want to encourage people to shop here at home!”
