ChiLLy Fest: The Sequel

Linden’s Second Annual ChiLLy Fest will encompass two weekends this year.

Inclement weather forced the postponement of the parade and fireworks last Saturday. Those events have been rescheduled for this Friday.

“Given the fact that our parade is a lighted parade requiring the generation of electricity and the fact that we had never mixed that with rain, we thought it in the best interest of all involved to postpone,” Linden Mayor Mitzi Gates said. “Moreover, we certainly didn’t want to put our children and adults at any more of a risk of getting an illness brought on by the cold and rain.”

The parade has been moved to Friday, Dec. 18, at 6:30. ChiLLy Christmas Caroling at the Gazebo will begin at 4 p.m. with the musical stylings of keyboardist/saxophonist Tony Nixon, followed by the Thomaston JOY Choir at 4:30 and continuing with the planned singing schedule.

“We are delighted to report that the fireworks will go on as planned, immediately following the parade,” Gates said. “Also, many of the vendors have agreed to come back to join in the celebration.

The Carnival will also be back up and running Friday, and possibly Saturday.

“Anyone who did not get an opportunity to redeem their ticket for an armband may do so on Friday,” Gates said.

Should you want to purchase an armband ticket for $12, you may do so at City Hall Monday thru Friday.

Linden’s Donnie Peppenhorst, WZZK’s radio personality Don Dailey, will also make the trip to Linden again Friday so that he can emcee the parade and Christmas Caroling for the fourth year in a row.

For those who were unable to complete a float for the parade that was supposed to be last weekend, Gates said the weather delay has given you a second chance.

If you want to enter a float, have it at Scott Park by 6 p.m. Friday for inclusion in the parade.
