POTW: Kileema Rogers

Kileema Rogers has this funny way of burning teams in the biggest spots. It’s no secret the Linden junior had her struggles Friday night against Demopolis. But then again, practically every player on the floor did.

Rogers did not exactly slug through the first 30 minutes of play. To the contrary, she worked hard. But her efforts just weren’t seen on the scorebook. She grabbed rebounds, played defense and dished off a lot.

Then came the game’s final minutes. After the Lady Patriots watched an 11-point lead disintegrate, they found themselves in a dog fight as the game clock raced toward the final buzzer. Demopolis got a transition bucket on one possession and a pair of free throws on the next to take a 39-36 advantage and put Linden on the ropes. Enter Kileema Rogers.

With 1:20 to go in the contest, Rogers stepped up to the arc and fired a triple that knotted the game at 39. The teams proceeded to trade possessions for the next 72.5 seconds. Then Rogers picked her spot again, draining a second game-changing triple with 7.5 seconds to play, giving Linden a 45-42 lead.

That shot proved to be the game-winner, handing Linden a big momentum booster as it looked toward area tournament play.
