Snow falling on Demopolis, accumulation disappearing

Residents of Marengo County woke up this morning to a dusting of snow as the front that was expected to dump between 3 to 5 inches of snow on Demopolis moved through the area.

The National Weather Service said atmospheric conditions caused the front to arrive later than expected but that did not affect how much snow they expected to fall in the Black Belt.

Demopolis schools, who elected to dismiss at 11:30 this morning, have already changed their plans. Parents were called to come pick up their children as soon as practical at 10:45 as snow fall crept toward half an inch on the ground. Shortly thereafter, as temperatures hovered above 32 degrees, what accumulation there was Friday morning had largely melted away. By 1 p.m., most yards not filled with snowmen were void of snow.
