The wait finally ends Monday night for the 77 players on the Demopolis High football team as the school will hold its state championship ring ceremony.

“That ring is a symbol of a lot of hard work and a lot of faith in each other that came together in 2009. Those guys did something special.” DHS head coach Tom Causey said. “It’s going to be the last hoorah. We want it to be a celebration, but once we pass those rings out, it’s time to put it all behind us and move forward.”

The program is set to take place in the gymnasium of Demopolis High School Monday at 7 p.m.

“We hope to have a 20-foot screen there playing the professionally done highlight DVD of the season,” quarterback club president Kenny Freeman said. “That part of it is going to start around 6:15 p.m. and the actual ceremony is going to start closer to 7 p.m. We don’t want it to be long and drawn out. We figure it is going to take about an hour and 15 minutes to get it all done. We want as many people to come out as can.”

While the players and coaches will be getting their rings Monday, the club still lacks in the vicinity of $5,000 in regards to paying them off. The club also owes an estimated $3,000 on items purchased to raise funds for the rings.

The quarterback club will also have members on hand at the ceremony to sell state championship hats and car tags as well as DVDs featuring highlights from the entire season. The club will also be selling magazines that commemorate the Tigers’ state championship season.

The club’s next fund raiser is the Daddy-Daughter Dance, an event that has been rescheduled to March 5 due to weather.
