James Vann

James Boyd Vann, age 56, died on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital in Demopolis.
He was a lifelong resident of Uniontown, where he had served as a former city councilman, and had served on numerous boards in Uniontown and Perry County. He was a member of Uniontown Fire Department and a member of Uniontown Church of God.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, B.R. and Ida Strickland; his paternal grandparents, Elijah B. Vann Sr. and Lily McCrory Vann; his father, Elijah B. Vann Jr.; and his brother, Jerry Vann.
He is survived by his two daughters, Tracie (Tim) Snodgrass of Uniontown and Cynthia (Farley) Fontecha of San Diego, Calif.; his son, Brian (Charlita) Fortner of Greensboro; his former wife and the children’s mother, Margaret Cunningham; nine grandchildren, Michael Fortner, Dennis Fitzhugh, Joshua Fitzhugh, Chelsea Duke, Rachel Duke, Jamie Fortner, Antonio Taylor, Tobias Fortner and Tyler Fortner; his mother, Mary Strickland Vann of Uniontown; one sister, Brenda (Huett) Brunson of Browns; two brothers, Thomas “Tom” (Tammy) Vann and Gordon (Mary) Vann, both of Uniontown.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 1, at 2 p.m. at Uniontown Church of God with the Rev. Richard Meads officiating. Interment will follow in Rosemont Cemetery with Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors of Demopolis directing the services.
The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday, Feb. 28, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Sammy Plummer, Artie Plummer, Tommy Plummer, Jamie Walker, Cliff Ray, T.L. Ray and Huett Brunson.
