A drug investigation dating back nearly a year reached its conclusion last month with the conviction of a Linden man.

Demetrius E. Wolf, 35, was found guilty of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, dating back to an investigation in May 2008.

Linden police chief Scott McClure said undercover officers made drug buys from local dealers on September of that same year, and more than a dozen people were arrested and charged under grand jury indictments.

Wolf, who goes by the nickname “Pill,” was one of these suspects and had pleaded not guilty.

“Officers from Linden Police Department and Marengo County Sheriff Department gave testimony about their involvement in the investigation,” McClure said. “(Assistant district attorney) Vince Dees admitted into evidence an audio and videotape of the sale of powder cocaine from Wolf to an informant.”

It took the jury less than 10 minutes to return a guilty verdict.

“I would like to thank Detective Dexter Watters and Deputy Keith Jordan for their role in the conviction of this Linden drug dealer,” McClure said. “Also, thanks to assistant DA Vince Dees, who did a great job in prosecuting this case for us. It pleased me greatly to see people of Marengo County serve on juries and make a statement as strong as this one by returning a verdict of guilty in such a short time.”

Wolf was ordered held at the Marengo County Detention Center until he is sentenced.
