Demopolis head coach Tom Causey will be part of the eight-man coaching staff for the Alabama team in the 24th annual Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 11 in Mobile according to a Friday press release.

“It’s a tremendous honor when you get a chance to coach the best of the best,” Causey said.

His 10-year career as a head coach saw him take part in the South staff of the annual North-South game at the Alabama All-Star Sports Week festivities in 2009. December’s Alabama-Mississippi game will mark the first time Causey has been afforded the opportunity to play a role in the interstate clash.

“Last summer, coaching the South in the North-South game was unbelievable,” Causey said. “This time, getting to represent the state of Alabama, I’m sure will be even better.”

The selection comes on the heels of a season in which Causey’s Demopolis Tiger team compiled a 12-3 record and won the Class 5A state championship, earning Causey his first state title in only his third season with the team.

“It’s a reflection of our staff, our player and the type of season we were able to have,” Causey said of his selection. “The good Lord has sure blessed me. It’s real humbling.”

Causey will serve as an assistant at the game, working on a staff headed by Briarwood Christian head coach Fred Yancey. Other members of the staff include Thomas “Tripp” Curry of Cherokee County, David Lowery of Brantley, Alvin Briggs of Florence, Chris Fancher of Gardendale and Al Pogue of Carver-Montgomery. Geoff Walters of Briarwood Christian will serve as the scout coach.

Causey has compiled a 29-10 record in his tenure with Demopolis and a 77-44 overall mark as a head coach.
