Distinguished University of West Alabama alumnus Hal Newman will be the featured performer on the Feb. 26 edition of the Sucarnochee Revue Radio Program.

This begins the sixth year of the popular musical variety show. “The Sucarnochee Revue” will be taped at 7 p.m. at Bibb Graves Auditorium on the campus of the University of West Alabama.

Newman received his bachelor’s degree in music education from Livingston State College and his master’s degree from Livingston University. As a doctoral candidate at Florida State University, he studied choral directing with Clayton Krehbiel and voice with Elena Nikolaidi.

He has been on the faculty of Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro since 1981 as a vital part of its recording industry program. His songs have been recorded by such diverse artists as Shirley Caesar (“He’s Only a Prayer Away”), George Strait (“Baby Your Baby” from the movie “Pure Country”), Lonnie Brooks (“Wound Up Tight”) and the Archers’ 1981 Grammy-nominated “Spreadin’ Like Wildfire”.

“Hal and his wife, Rachael, are great artists and loyal friends of UWA,” said Jacky Jack White, the host and producer of the show. “It’s a real honor to have them come back and perform on our stage.”

Joining Newman will be Grammy award winner Wood Newton, gospel music greats the Red Roots, Tony Holt and theRetro Rockers, and all the regular cast of The Sucarnochee Revue.
