Troy Martin Sr., age 75, of Demopolis passed away on April 13, 2010, at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
He was born on Jan. 21, 1935, in Dixon’s Mill to the late Woody Lee and Mellie Strickland Martin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mellie Louise Vick; and four brothers, John Woody Martin Jr., Mollen Earl Martin, Willie Lee “Tiny” Martin and Ernest Clifton Martin.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Claire Boykin Martin; three daughters, Dana Martin (Ricky) Edwards of Demopolis, Torie Martin (Wayne) Wiggins of Jackson, Miss., and Jennifer Claire (Elton) Martin of Demopolis; a son, Troy “Skip” Martin Jr. of Demopolis; a sister, Ada Gray (Wilford) Vick of Dixon’s Mill; two brothers, Roy (Joyce) Martin of Pineapple and Otis Donald “Bill” (Jenny) Martin of Lavaca; 11 grandchildren, Travis McCray, Garret Edwards, Alyssa Edwards, Whitney Martin, Spencer Martin, Jeremy Wiggins, Joshua Wiggins, Ervin Griffin, Amber Griffin, Zack Griffin and Cheyenne Griffin; and two great-grandchildren, Shay McCray and Victoria McCray.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 17, at 2 p.m. at Kirk Funeral Homes Demopolis Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Ben H. Sherrod will officiate the ceremony. Burial will follow at Payne’s Chapel Cemetery in Dixon’s Mill on County Road 6. Kirk Funeral Homes Demopolis Chapel is directing the services.
Active pallbearers will be Scott Biggs, Shawn Biggs, Percy Vick Jr., Eddie Vick, Bo Martin, Johnny Martin, Carl Johnson and Tommy Smith Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack McPherson, Bill Carpenter, David McCray, William Crispin, Tommy Howell, Fred “Fredo” Neal, Jimmy Lee Branch, Robert Moseley and Walt Pope.
