Linden seeking school superintendent

The Linden City Schools system is continuing its search for a superintendent, accepting applications through May 19.

“We have posted the position statewide,” said school board chair Joyce Yeager. “After May 19, we will select those who meet our qualifications best and set up interviews with those top candidates.

“This is something that we haven’t faced in a while, so we’re just kind of taking baby steps and doing a little at a time, trying to do it right.”

Scott Collier, who has served as the Linden superintendent since Feb. 25, 2008, will retire at the end of the school year. He has worked in the school system for 22 years, having worked at all three of the schools in the system, including George P. Austin Junior High School, Linden High School and Linden Elementary School, where he serves as the principal.

Collier is a native of Linden, a graduate of Marengo Academy and a graduate of the University of West Alabama. In March, he said that he had no specific plans after retiring except to ride his motorcycle, go hunting and fishing and relaxing for a while.
