A Time to Share, a community service organization, will sponsor a day of fun with free food, games and crafts on Saturday, July 3, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Gaineswood tennis courts.

The fun day was put together for A Time to Share to help raise funds for its many projects that help community members.

“This year, we have more things that we are going to add,” said Grace Clayton. “We have some crafts, teaching how to make baskets. We are hoping to get the car show back so the kids can learn about cars. This year, they had 18 cars in the car show. We’re also hoping to have nurses out to take blood pressure and do diabetes testing. F&F Drugs has supplied us with some diabetes testing kits.”

Clayton said that the needs of the community have grown since the closing of the New Era Caps facility earlier this year.

“We need a lot of donations, because this year has been harder with New Era closing,” Clayton said. “We’re going to try to feed as many people as we can. Our goal this year is also to donate to Trinity Episcopal Church because of their work with the Food Pantry, which helps a lot of people. We have given to Harriet’s House here and Hannah’s House at Eight Mile, Ala.”

Clayton said that A Time to Share helps provide food to those in need throughout the community.

“Thanksgiving is our big day,” she said. “We give thanks and we feed anybody who is hungry who would like a meal. We also give to the nursing homes and take plates to people who are homebound during Thanksgiving. If anyone comes to us with a problem, we try to help.”
