Demopolis 10U strong in win

The Demopolis 10U Cal Ripken all-star team rebounded from a tough Monday loss to Gilbertown with a 17-3 dispatching of Linden Tuesday night.

“They finally came together as a team like they needed to,” Demopolis head coach Mark Crawford said. “We’ve been stressing team to them and they finally had some fun with it.”

Demopolis went up 5-0 before Linden cut into the advantage. Leading only 5-3, Demopolis went on to score 12 unanswered runs and put the game out of reach.

“Everybody hit the ball really well,” Crawford said. “Our defense has improved tremendously. Everybody is playing as a team.”

Demopolis’ Davis Petrey went 2-for-4 with a pair of triples and two runs scored. Wesley Allgood was 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Andrew Patterson went 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs. Jeremy Foster was 2-for-4 with two runs. Jackson Lay was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored. Carson Crawford went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored. Dawslon Lay was 1-for-2 with a pair of runs while David Crawford went 2-for-3 with a run.

Dawson Lay worked three innings on the mound to pick up the win. Carson Crawford and Davis Petrey each pitched an inning in relief.

“We’re just wanting to play hard and improve a little bit every game,” Mark Crawford said of his team’s remaining pool play games, which will come Wednesday night at home against Greensboro and on the road at Sumter County Thursday.

Linden got is production out of D.J. Dukes, who went 3-for-3 in the contest. Hudson Breckenridge was 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Cameron Dodd was 1-for-3 with a run. Cody Cobb was 2-for-2 with a walk and a run. Grant Tate also picked up a hit.

Linden, 1-1 in the District 10 Tournament, will host Gilbertown at the Demopolis Sports-Plex Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. before wrapping up pool play Thursday night when it visits Greensboro.
