Across the state on Tuesday, people will head to the polls to take part in the runoff election. The Marengo County ballot will feature a number of statewide races as well as two county races.

As in the primary and general elections, polling places will be open on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“Just as in the primary election, people have to declare whether they want to vote on a Republican or a Democratic ballot,” said Marengo County Probate Judge Cindy Neilson.

On the Democratic Party slate in the county office elections, Richard E. “Ben” Bates will run against Randy Sanders for the candidacy of sheriff, while incumbent Jerry Loftin will face Michael Thompson for the position of Marengo County Commissioner for District 5.

In this region, candidates seeking the U.S. Representative position for District 7 include Terri Sewell and Shelia Smoot competing on the Democratic Party ballot.

In statewide races, James Anderson and Giles Perkins will compete for the state attorney general’s office on the Democratic Party ballot.

On the Republican ballot, the race for governor finds Dr. Robert Bentley and Bradley Byrne vying for that party’s candidacy, and Don Chamberlain and Chris Salter will battle for the U.S. Representative seat in District 7.

In the state commissioner of agriculture and industries race on the Republican ballot, Dorman Grace and John McMillan are vying for that office, while Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh and Steven Evans hope to gain the seat of Public Service Commission Place No. 1.
