Ludie Clarence Ryan

Ludie Clarence Ryan, age 92, of Greensboro passed away on July 6, 2010, at his family home.

He was born on April 17, 1918, in Hale County. He purchased Valet Cleaners in 1969. He was one of the charter members of the Greensboro Lions Club, which began in 1955. He also served as a city council member and chaired several community drives for beneficial organizations.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ludie Washington and Frances Flossie Crawford Ryan; his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Marie Price Ryan; and a son, John William Ryan Sr.

Survivors include his son, David Clarence (Jan Horn) Ryan of Guntersville; a daughter, Linda Ryan (Sherrill Neeland) Kirk of Marion; four sisters, Lois Evelyn Ryan (Floyd) Barnette of Marion, Frances Hazel Ryan (J.M.) Dunn of Birmingham, Minnie Opal Ryan (Robert Glenn) Payne of Moundville and Velma Lucille Ryan (Oscar Clarence) Jones of Montgomery; three grandsons, John William Ryan Jr. and Joshua Dean Ryan, both of Greensboro and James Mitchell Ryan of Destin; a granddaughter, Lea Elizabeth Kirk (Edward Eugene) Luker of Greensboro; a great-grandchild, Neeland Ryan Luker of Greensboro; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews and his caregivers, Angela Waller and Mary Rhodes.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, July 8, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Greensboro. Dr. David Pierce and the Rev. Steve Vernon officiated. The family received friends from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Interment was in the family plot at Oakwood Cemetery in Greensboro. Kirk Funeral Homes Greensboro Chapel directed the services.

Pallbearers were Lea Elizabeth Kirk Luker, John William Ryan Jr., James Mitchell Ryan, Joshua Dean Ryan, Edward Eugene Luker and Braz Barnette.
