Wants to get into the spirit of Demopolis? The next two weekends should be great for doing just that.
First off, Demopolis High School will host its second annual Fan Day next weekend. The event, which is scheduled to start at 5:30 at Tiger Stadium, provides a great opportunity for the community to interact with the players, coaches and cheerleaders that make Demopolis High football enjoyable.
Fresh off a Class 5A state title, the Tigers should bring a little something extra to the table this year as they have hardware aplenty.
This year’s event takes on a little extra meaning as a number of the more familiar Demopolis faces have graduated and gone on to other things, leaving behind a lot of new names to fill their shoes.
Football has reached new heights of popularity in Demopolis and celebrating the local team in a preseason event is a great way to get everyone fired up for the season that is fast approaching.
One week later the city will open itself for the first ever Hay Dayz festival, something it hopes will become an annual event. The event will feature a corn dog eathing contest, concerts, a hay bell decorating contest, inflatables, assorted food vendors, arts and crafts, games, rides and plenty of fun for people of all ages.
The event is apparently designed to have a state fair kind of feel. And that’s a good thing for a small town like Demopolis.
Plenty of people complain about there being nothing to do around Demopolis. The next two wekends should offer plenty of contradictions to that theory.
More than anything, the next two weekends are great opportunities to get outside, meet people and enjoy the culture and camaradarie of Demopolis as summer winds down.
Soon after that, Saturdays become all about yard work and football around these parts. So take then next two weekends to take in the culture of the City of the People.
