Marengo Academy SGA holds orientation

The 2010-11 Student Government Association has had a busy summer. With a new school year kicking off, the SGA members were at the school getting ready for the new year by helping in repairs, cleaning, assisting teachers or any other items that needed their attention. They were there willing to help.
On Aug. 3, the SGA held an orientation. This was a day for the seventh-grade students and any new students to tour the campus, locate their locker and meet some of the faculty and staff along with headmaster and coach Robby James.
Before the tour of the school, the SGA held a drawing for the students on hand, and the winner was seventh-grader DeAnn Honeycutt. Before the students left campus, the SGA provided refreshments.
The next two days, Wednesday and Thursday, was for teacher in-service work. Once again, the SGA stepped up and provided morning refreshments from 8:30 to 9 a.m.
After refreshments, a devotion was given by SGA president Ciara McIntyre followed by a prayer from secretary Jessica Brock. After the devotion, the faculty and staff had a chance to register for a door prize. The winner was K-5 teacher Lynn Dunning, who won a Marengo Academy umbrella donated by the yearbook committee.
Each person present was then given a gift bag from the SGA with items that will be very useful for the upcoming school year.
This was just a small token of appreciation for all the hard work that the teachers do throughout the year.
On Thursday, refreshments were available for the faculty and staff. After refreshments, reporter Chris Sammons gave a devotion followed with a prayer from chaplain Trevor Johnson.
The SGA has a busy but exciting year ahead of them. The first item that they are planning is on Friday, Aug. 20, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the high school. This is National Lemonade Day. As a fundraiser, the SGA will set a lemonade stand at the high school parking lot where people will be able to drive in and buy a cup of lemonade and a snack for $2.
Everyone is invited to come out and support the SGA.
