Demopolis Middle School (1-0) picked up an impressive season-opening win in head coach Daniel Flowers’ debut Monday, dropping Sipsey Valley 15-6.
“They looked really good,” Flowers said. “We’ve only been practicing about two weeks.”
DMS rode the legs of do-it-all eighth-grader Rashad Lynch to the win. Lynch carried the ball 18 times for 132 yards and a touchdown in the win. The Tigers also got a score from Timothy Bonner, who caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Tripp Perry. Bonner contributed points defensively as well, recording a safety in the game.
Perry, who went 3-for-4 passing for 57 yards, also helped the team out with his kicking ability. He connected on an extra-point attempt and averaged 36 yards per punt in the contest.
The Tigers are back at work this week as they prepare for Linden, a team Flowers refers to solely as “Goal No. 2.”
“We’re working on our passing game,” Flowers said. “We only passed the ball four times (Monday) night.”
