LIVINGSTON – The University of West Alabama’s College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics gives third through six graders the opportunity participate in the Science Olympiad Smorgasbord, a variety of fun learning activities, during a free science enrichment program Saturday, Sept. 18.

In the first Science Saturdays workshop of the fall semester, students will compete in events that comprise the Science Olympiad, which takes place Oct. 19 on the UWA campus. The competitions consist of a series of individual and team events that are all geared toward science and math. Popular events include water rocket launches, barge building and straw egg drop competitions.

The Science Saturdays outreach program, which takes place one Saturday each month, allows students in elementary, middle, and high schools in and around Sumter County to conduct hands-on scientific learning activities supervised by UWA faculty. These activities are free of charge and open to any children in the appropriate age groups. The series is supported, in part, by a grant from the Sumter County Nature Trust.
